Abstract

research found that most of the clients with hypertension stopped their medication program on the first year. Most of them are outpatient clinic. The lack of knowledge in conjunction with their desease is the factor that influencing their disobedience. Obeying the follow up care of the clients is the positive behavior to reach the therapy's goal. This research's design is cross sectional. The independent variable is respondent's knowledge of hypertension, and the dependent variable is their obedience to the follow up care. The samples are 157 clients with hypertension who has visited heart outpatient clinics in Dr. Soetomo Hospital for more than a year. They are selected by consecutive sampling. The data needed in this study are collected by questionnaire and observation of the clients' medical record. The data are computed statistically by Chi-square test with p :S 0,05. The result shows that there is significance relationship between the respondents' knowledge of hypertension and their obedience follow up care ( p=0.05). It is concluded that the better the respondents' knowledge of hypertension , the better the obedience they have in follow up care in hospital. So the health provider should give more health education or information of hypertension clients.
