Abstract
Tepid sponge bath is a therapeutic bath by washing all around of the body
with warm water to decrease body temperature. Tepid sponge bath with warm
water could decrease body temperature by evaporation and convection. Warm
water that used were 32°C (nail warm) and 37°C (warm). The aimed of this study
was to compare the effectivity of tepid sponge bath with 32°C and 37°C wam1
water on decreasing body temperature at toddler with fever.
The design in this study was a quasy experimental, pre and post test
design. The population was toddler who had body temperature 2':38°C which
treated in anggrek pediatric room dr. Iskak public hospital Tulungagung. The
sample were recruited by using purposive sampling technique. The sample were
26 respondents who met to the inclution criteria and divided into two group which
13 respondents which received tepid sponge bath with 32°C and 13 respondents
which received tepid sponge bath with 3 7°C warm water. The independent
variable was tepid sponge bath and dependent variable was body temperature.
Data were collected by using digital termometere and noted in respondent
observation. Data were analyzed by using Pair t-Test to know the effectifity of
tepid sponge bath with 32°C and 3 7°C warm water on decreasing body
temperature, and Mann Withney U-Test to know the comparation of the
effectivity among both of them.
The result showed that there was an effectivity on decreasing body
temperature by giving tepid sponge bath with 32°C and 37°C warm water with
significance level p=O.OOO and there was a difference decreasing body
temperature among both of them with significance level p=0.016.
It can be concluded that tepid sponge bath with 37°C warm water was
more effective than tepid sponge bath with 32°C warm water. Further studies
should observe the effectivity of tepid sponge bath with more specific age, fever
character and more time and respondent.
