Abstract

Work diseases are worker's problem in many sector. The most causes of welding diseases are worker's fault, such as the worker doesn't obey standard operating procedure to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) or because do unsafe work. The purpose of this research was to analyze the effect of health education about healthy work health and safety about behavior on wearing PPE in welding to work behavior. This research use quasy experiment design. The population comprised 27 respondens, consist of 14 respondens as treatment group, and the others 13 respondens as control group, recruited using simple random sampling. It had done in CBL and MPL workshop, Commerce Ship Division of PT PAL Indonesia (Persero ). Independent variable in this research is work health and safety education and dependent variable are knowledge, attitude and obedience of wearing PPE. The data were collected by using questionnaire and observation, and were analyzed using Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test and Mann Whitney U. Test, with level of significance ofp S 0.05. The result show with wilcoxon signed rank test that work health and safety education significantly change workers knowledge with (p) = 0,007, attitude with (p) = 0,014 and obedience with (p) = 0,020. Mann Whitney U Test compare posttest between intervention group and control group. This test result with significance (p) = 0.002 in knowJedge, (p) = 0.033 in attitude, and (p) = 0.031 in obedience. It can be concluded that health education is one of solution which can raising workers knowledge, attitude and awareness to do work safely. It is recommended to a daily program for companies. So the workers could be prevented from dangerous and work diseases.
