Abstract

AIDS (Acquired Immuno Deficiency Syndrome) has become a serious problem throughout the world, and must be aware by human, especially for the hea11h care personnel. It must be realiz.ed by the health care personnel to apply universal precaution, in order to prevent lilV I AIDS infection for health care personne~ especially by the nurses who interact with patient intensively. This study is aimed to describe the relationships between the knowledge and attitude, with the behaviour of the nurses in the effort of preventing the IIlV/AIDS infection. The type of this study is cross-sectional which populations are all nurses occupying in the Emergency Room of Dr. Soedono General Hospital Madiun, as 1he direct care to 1he patient The am01mt of the samples are 31 respondents taken according to the inclusion criteria. The independent variables are the knowledge and the attitude of the nurses in preventing the IIlV I AIDS infection. The dependent variable is 1he behaviour of the nurses in preventing the mv I AIDS infection. The method of data collection that is used is the structured questions and respondent observation. Then, the data is analyzed by using the Fisher's exact test with the level of meaning is p :s; 0,05. The measurement device that is used is the knowledge of 1he questi.onaire and the attitude of PETRI (The Association of the Researcher of Tropical and Infection Disease) Surabaya. The result of the study on the level of the nurses' knowledge about HIV I AIDS is related significantly to the nurses' behaviour with the value of meaning of p = 0,023 based on the analysis result of the Fisher's exact test, and the nurses' behaviour in preventing the mv I AIDS infection related to the knowledge . It is not affected by the nurses' attitude with 1he value of meaning of p = 0, 169 based on the analysis result of the Fisher's exact test From this result, it can be concluded that the nurses' behaviour in preventing the mv I AIDS infection relates to the knowledge and not affected by the nurses' attitude.
