Abstract

The scope of this research is the study of the transformation of the expressive symbols (arts) in the holy Eucharistic Liturgical celebration. The Roman Chatolic Eucharist ceremony as the religious and artistic experience is possible to be developed and transfonned into various syntbols. A holy Eucharist is an agreed pattetn of ceremonial movements, sound, and verbal formulas as expressive symbols. The fact is the potential relationship between the religious and artistic symbols that may be set-up harn1oniously, as an appropriate way to express the Eucharistic celebration as lnunan salvation. This mystery of faith, as expressed in the Eucharistic celebration, has developed various forms and emphasis throughout the history of the local Church. Aculturation and inculturation have taken place according to the cultural setting of the people receiving this salvific 1nessage. This case study to find a way to inculturation the Eucharistic celebration in the rural Javanese culture context. Attentpts of inculturation of the trasformation expressive syntbols by lokal Church are efforts to study the influence between of Catholic religion and local culture, as well as institutionalized of Church. By so doing this study will strengthen the theory of culture as the system symbols. Inculturation of the transformation expressive symbols is a process of assimilation or adaptation. It incorporates a spiritual attitude which is a willingness to be open to God's plan as reflected in the values of the culture. Therefore the inculturation of the local Church is an attempt to implant the Church into local culture whose people are accepting Catholic religion. In order to make the research complete, the researcher has used sociology of art and sociology of religion approaches. It is important to remember that the using of this approach gives a valuable help in observing the transformation of the expressive symbols explicitly, especially to be aware of its existence in the conununity ritual. Most of the material has been taken from this research it is clearly that some the data used to refer to the resource person informations as the ernie factor; to observed for Eucharist celebration. Besides, some reference books have been used for completing the data. Based on the explanation above in order to be able to see the relationship between the trasforn1ed expressive and religious symbols, it is important to fix kinds of the integrated paradigms. The first side is social fact paradigm focused primarily on the macrosubjective levels which include, norms, and values of the collective consciousness of Church community; and the second one is social definition paradigm is largely concerned with the micro-subjective levels which includes the various facets of the social construction of reality, as well as that part of micro-objective levels for examples include patten1s of behavior, action of the trasformation expressive symbols. Both as a reality is a system it was composed of a series of in interrelated parts. Thus, by cxtention, the transformation of the expressive symbols in the holy Eucharistic Liturgical celebration were needed and awared by the social system is not be separated from inculturation process of local Church.
