Abstract

Hypertention recently is the third killing desease, it is called the silent killer, couse the patient with hypertention has no complaining. More than 90% the cause of hypertention is unknown. Stress condition is irritating the sympathetic nerve system that increasing the blood pressure. Progressive relaxation is the method to make the mind and body relaxs, focus to one thing and cuts the sympathetic nerve pathway. The purpose of study to explain the effect of progressive relaxation to blood pressure of the patient with primary hypertention. Design used in this study was Crossover Design with pre-post test. The population was all patient with pure primary hypertention coming in hospital Kediri (RSUD Kabupaten Kediri). Total sampel was 10 respondens, taken according to inclusion criteria The independent variable was progressive relaxation, the dependent variable was blood pressure. Data was collected using measurement of blood pressure pre-post progressive rellPtation. Data analyzed using wilcoxon signed ranks test, with level of significance of:5 0,05. Result showed that progressive relaxation affected decrease systolic blood pressure (p = 0,005) but not to diastolic (p = 0,311). The decreasing of systolic was not to normal limit of blood pressure. It can be concluded that progressive relaxation can decrease systolic of the blood pressure, and make body feels comfort. There is simUar research about imagery relaxation hut the result of this research mention i.ma.2ery rela.'Xation can not decrease the blood pressure (systolic & diastolic). Further studies should focus on proving the effect of progressive relaxation combined to antihypettention medicine to patient with primary hypertention who has strong willing, active in following progressive relaxation procedure and avoiding the prohibition.
