Abstract
Elderly as the fmal stage of the human life cycle, often tinged with the living conditions that do not conform to the expectations of both mental and physical. Elderly vulnerable to sleep disorders because of pressure in sleep patterns. Relaxation in progressive muscle and Javanese gamelan music can bring calm and relaxed state where brain waves begin to slow down and making a person can rest and fall asleep. The design of this study was quasi experimental non equivalent pre-test and post-test control group design. The number of samples was 24 respondents. The respondents were the elderly insomnia at UPT PSLU Magetan in May 2014. Independent variable in this study is relaxation in progressive muscle exposed to javanese gamelan music instrument and th~ depe~dent variabl~ in this study is the sleep quality of elderly. The results showed that the treatment group showed improved sleep quality. Result of t-test showed p=O.Oll, which means there is the effect of relaxation in progressive muscle exposed to javanese gamelan music instrument on sleep quality in eld~rly insomnia at UfT PSLU M~~tm.l, whjle th~ r~sults of one-way ANOV A showed p=O.041, which means there is a significant difference between the sleep quality of elderly in the treatment group and the control. This study showed that relaxation in progressive muscle exposed to javanese gamelan music instrument affect sleep quality improvement in elderly insomnia in UPT PSLU Mag~~. futllrt! studies ar~ ~xp~<;te.d tQ q~v~IQP pr~vioqs research on relaxation in progressive muscle exposed to javanese gamelan music instrument and its influence on the improvement of the immune system, cortisol levels, and quality ofHfe of elderly.
