Abstract
Introduction: Diabetes mellitus is a disease that experiences metabolic disorders with characteristics of hyperglycemia. In this condition, you will experience gastrointestinal symptoms, one of which is nausea. Nausea is of greater concern because it can worsen the glucose imbalance status in the body. One of the treatments for treating nausea is non-pharmacological therapy. The pharmacological therapy given is by administering peppermint aromatherapy to overcome the problem of nursing nausea. Method: The design of this research is descriptive research with a case study approach. The research sample was 1 adult aged 53 years with a medical diagnosis of diabetes mellitus. The instrument used is the structure of nursing care. Implementation is given by administering 1 ml of peppermint aromatherapy dripped on cotton/tissue and inhaled at a distance of 2 cm from the nose for 5-10 minutes. Result and discussion: The initial assessment found that he complained of continuous nausea, looked pale, anemic conjunctiva, only 1 spoonful of food was not finished after administering peppermint aromatherapy for 4 x 24 hours. The results showed that nausea was reduced, appetite increased, the patient did not look pale, but the portion of the meal not finished, only 4-5 tablespoons. So that the nursing evaluation obtained is that the problem of nausea can be partially resolved. Conclusion: Giving peppermint aromatherapy is recommended as a non-pharmacological measure that can help overcome the problem of nausea.
