Abstract
Introducti on: People living w ith HlV/A IDS (PLWHA) tend to be stigmatized by communi ty, so that HlV/A IDS is i ncreasingly recognized as social problem . The determin ants of HTV-related stigma are mul ti factori al. This study was aimed to analyze the factors associated wit h stigma att i tude against PLW HA among communiti es based on PRECEDE model. Methods: A cross-sectiona l study was carried out in Masara n Village, Trengga lek . A total of 110 genera l ind ividuals with age 20-60 yea rs were drawn using two stage cluster samplin g. Stand ardi zed questionnaire were admini stered. The i ndepend ent va riables were predisposing factor (knowledge, perception), enabl ing factor (ava ilabili ty of resources), and reinforcing factor (community leaders su pport, hea lth workers support) . The dependent variable was stigma. Uni varia te and bivariate Spearman's-rho were perform ed to assess factors a ffect i ng stigm a . Results: The result of thi s stud y showed that va ri ables associated with the stigma aga inst PLWHA were knowledge (p=O.OOO; r= -0,425), percept ion (p=O.OOO; r= -0,635), ava ilab ility of resources (p=0.034; r= -0,202), and com m unity leaders support (p=O.OOO; r= - 0,369). Mea nwhile, the health work ers su pport (p=0.070) was not associated with stigma . Discussion: The results concluded that t he using PRECEDE model in analyzing factors rela ted to stigma shows that there was significant association between predisposing factor (knowledge, perception), enablin g factor (ava ilabili ty of resources), and reinforcing factor (commu nity leaders support). It is necessa ry to involve the role of communi ty l eaders in HIV education program by loca l nurses. Therefore, more research w ith d ifferent design is needed to expl ain the causal-ef fect rela tionship of stigma.
