Abstract

Pain is an effect that can be easly seen in the post cesarean section patients. This study aimed to analyze the difference in pain levels between post cesarean section patients without complication who were given and were not given music therapy in Bhakti Rahayu hospital Surabaya. This was a quasy experimental study with post test only design. The sample consisted of 32 post cesarean section patients without complication and were randomly allocated in both control and treatment group. The control group consisted of 16 samples that were not given music therapy, while treatment group consisted of 16 samples that were given music therapy. The result showed that 62.5% respondents in the control group experienced moderate pain on day 0 post surgery, while on day 1, it was equal to 68%. On the other side, 56,3% respondents in the treatment group on day 0 post surgery experienced moderate pain, while on day 1, respondents who experienced mild pain have the same proportion as respondents who showed p=0,029 on day 0 and p=0,023 on day. These results indicated a significant (p0,05). In conclution there is a difference in pain level between control and treatment group. Where patients that were given music therapy had lower levels of pain than those that were not given music therapy. The pain level conformed with the vital signs. Where the treatment group had lower level of pain, followed by lower value of systole, pulse, respiration and temperature if compared to the control group. Therefore the writer suggested that Bhakti Rahayu hospital should improve the quality of care and consider the application of music therapy as part of pain management.
