Abstract

Abstract Nowadays the number of elderly has increased. Increasing elderly population followed by a variety of problems for themselves. One of the problems that the elderly are often complained of insomnia. Alternative therapies are often used by nurses to cope with insomnia elderly were keroncong music therapy and progressive muscle relaxation. The purpose of this study was to determine the difference effect keroncong music therapy and progressive muscle relaxation to on decreasing insomnia in the elderly. This study used quasi experimental research design with Nonequivalent Control Group Design. The population on this research is elderly experiencing insomnia at Panti Pangesti Lawang. Total respondents are 11 for keroncong music therapy group, II for progressive muscle relaxation group and 11 for control group. Collecting data to measure insomnia use a questionnaire of The Insomnia Severity Index. Once given within 7 days of treatment, insomnia elderly remeasured. Analysis data using Wilcoxon Signed Ranks and Mann Whitney test. Statistical analysis using Wilcoxon Signed Ranks Test showed no difference in insomnia in the elderly before and after keroncong music therapy and progressive muscle relaxation were given, while the control group there was no difference. To determine the difference effect keroncong music therapy and progressive muscle relaxation using Mann Whitney Test and it can be concluded that there is no difference effect keroncong music therapy and progressive muscle relaxa1ion.
