Abstract

Autism is a pervasive development disorder in social interaction, community and behaviour. An autistic child wiil be a stressor to their family. The purpose at the study was to find the influence of health education family group towards elderly coping in taking care of children with autism. Tbis was a quasy experimental study. Samples were taken from parent of an autistic cbild in Cahaya Harapan Institute, Madiuo. Sample size was 16 individuals, recruiting using purposive sampling. Obtained samples were divided inti 2 groups comprising 7 individuals as contol groups and 9 individuals as treatment groups. One group was given with health aeducation family groups, while another one was not. Collected data were processed using Wilcoxon Signed Ranks Test and Mann Whitney Test with significance level ofp< 0,05. Result of Wilcoxon test showed change increase adaptive coping in treatment group after being given with education, with p=O,OI8 while in control group happen change decrease adaptive coping, with p=O,008. Health education family group increase the using of individuals coping to be more adaptive. Result of Mann Whitney Test showed p = 0,026. It can be concluded that health education family group has influence on coping of parents in taking care of cbildren with autism.
