Abstract

Bedrest is an intervention in which the client is restricted to remain in bed for therapeutic purposes. However, bed rest itself can affect the body's physiologically such as constipation. This study aims to identify the relation ship between prolonged bed rest with the incidence of constipation to the patients with coronary heart disease. Independent variables in the study is bed rest and the dependent variable is constipation. This study used a descriptive correlation design with a cross sectional approach sampling using the total population . With 30 respondent data We collected using an interviews and using the analysis sheet of rho spearman with 95% confidence interval, or the value of a. = 0.05. The results of Spearman rho correlation test statistics, Obtained value of p = 0.000. Because p = 0.000 <0.05, so H 1 is rejected. it means that there were relationship between prolonged bed rest with the incidence of constipation to the patients with coronary heart disease in Dr. H. Slamet Martodirdjo Pamekasan hospital. This study shows that prolonged bed rest in patients with coronary heart disease can cause changes to the pattern of elimination such as constiption. From this research interventions such as mobilization needs to be done in stages, a high fiber diet are and easily absorbed by the body it, is necessary for patients with prolonged bed rest, especially patients with coronary heart disease to avoid constipation. The authors recommend further research to conduct a more in-depth study of the factors that affect bowel elimination disorders and not only to patien with heart disease
