Abstract

Since 2003, highly pathogenic HSN! avian influenza viruses have caused outbreaks among poultries in Indonesia every year and produced the highest number of human victims worldwide. Phylogenetic analysis of the HSN! avian influenza virus genes revealed that all virus belonged to clade 2.1 . At the end of 2012, the virus had suddenly caused death in ducks with the highest number in Central Java, East Java, and West Java. Based on the same analysis of the duck isolated virus genes revealed that the viruses belonged to clade 2.3. This study aims to determine comparation between Al HSN! Clade 2.1 and Clade 2.3 viruses in attacking the target organ of each clade, based on clinical symptoms seen in birds. This study was performed -with both viruses infect mice as representative of mammals. This research was divided into three steps; the first step infected I 5 mice with Al subtype HSN! clade 2.1 and clade 2.3 viruses for animal models, the second step observed the mice for fifteen days, the third step collected sample of Al subtype HSN! clade 2.1 and clade 2.3 histopatology changes analysis. The Histopathological changes was analyzed from mice brain and lungs tissues with HE method. The results of this study were provided in the form of microscopic damage seen on mice of their brain tissues and organs of lungs tissues caused by infection with Al subtype HSNl clade 2.1 and clade 2.3 viruses. This could be due to those two of Al subtype HSNl clade viruses have the same receptors on mice that can cause damage to the organs of mammals. It can be summed up that the results of the Al subtype HSNl Clade 2.1 and Clade 2.3 viruses have the infectious potential in mice and possibly in humans as well.
