Abstract

This study is aimed to identify the effects of extra virgin coconut oil on HDL (High Density Lipoprotein) levels of rat (Rattus norvegicus) with high fat diets. At the first week, 20 rats were adapted in new condition. After that, induction stage with high fat diets for 4 weeks to gain a hypercholesterolemic condition. The rats were divided into two groups, positive control group (P0+) of 10 rats were given high fat diets + aquadest and treatment group (P1) were given with high fat diets + extra virgin coconut oil. After two months treatment, 3 cc blood sampling was acquired intracardially and were analyzed at Balai Besar Laboratorium Kesehatan (BBLK) Surabaya. Data were analized with Independent T -test method. The result shows that the average of positive control (P0+) HDL levels was 23,70 ± 5,66 mgldl and the treatment with extra coconut oil (P1) was 22,70 ±4,32 mgldl. It was showed that extra virgin coconut oil while given to high fat diets did not showed significant difference.
