Abstract
“Anthology: Human Society and Culture” offers a complete examination of contemporary human dynamics through three intriguing essays that dive into social, cultural, and linguistic issues. The essays entitled ‘Should We Allow Anonymity on Social media’, ‘The Analysis of Elena Zambelli’s (2020) “Whore Stigma” and How It Affects All Women’, and ‘The Major Historical Changes in The Sound System of British English’ were written from the author’s IISMA program in Lancaster University as examinations and projects which were then polished and turned into an anthology for the final report. There were two Statements of the Problems regarding the diverse perspectives that can be identified in the anthology and how the readers perceived the anthology through an online publishing platform called Medium. The theoretical perspectives that were used within the anthology were: functionalism, a sociological perspective by Herbert Spencer and Talcott Parsons; conflict theory by Plato and Hobbes; and structuralism by Ferdinand de Saussure. In order to answer the problems displayed on the Statements of the Problems, two methods were used, including doing an opt-in sampling survey and sharing the essays through Medium. The essays were analyzed based on the three sociological perspectives, and were then applied with substantial data and poll results, with the first essay explaining the complicated societal ramifications of online anonymity which provokes critical thought about the balance of digital freedom and responsibility. The second essay assessed Elena Zambelli’s fundamental study on the widespread ‘whore stigma’ and its severe influence on women. In a linguistic context, the third essay examined the evolution of British English pronunciation which focuses on key historical variations in phonetic patterns and their cultural implications. The essay investigated how language evolves alongside societal changes and regional identities which provides insights on the dynamic interaction between language, culture, and identity.
