Abstract

This final report examines the translation methods and strategies applied in translating news articles during the writer’s internship at Hongkong Junren International Trading Co., Ltd. The study case was performed by recapitulating data from the observation and documents, and combining the feedback and references to find the proper methods and strategies. The data were collected by observing various sources such as books, journals, and academic reports, as well as the internship supervisor’s feedback and other references such as colleague discussions regarding translation methods and strategies. The observation was then used as a guide in identifying the ideal methods and strategies applied in the documents of two Indonesian-to-English news article translations. Based on such concerns, a method and some strategies were applied. They are the communicative method and seven strategies, including addition, subtraction, omission, synonym, paraphrase, through-translation, and borrowing. The report reveals that such methods and strategies can be used to translate news articles properly.
