Abstract

The purpose of using learning media is to make the teaching and learning process more effective and meaningful. TikTok is defined as an application to share a video that can be used to create, share, and watch many kinds of videos. Learning english is very important because almost all nations use the English language. Vocabulary is the basic skill that must be reached. Translating is not easy. Newmark (1988), defined translation as a process of transferring the meaning of a source language into the target language in the manner in which the translator aimed. Moreover, creating video content on TikTok in two languages, namely Indonesian and English, to assess its effectiveness in achieving learning goals. It takes time and a lot of consideration to produce a good translation. The writer should identify how the semantic translation method used in translating the content and strategies that are suitable for the project. The writer also uses social media post, journals, research reports, and academic publications that discuss the use of social media in education to assist the content translation process. The writer decided to use the semantic translation and how the semantic translation method used in her project, which is a video TikTok entitled What Type of Person Are You? After determining the method, the writer also used two strategies, which are addition and cultural equivalent. Additionally, by analyzing the translation method and strategies, the writer was able to produce better translation results.
