Abstract

To effectively convey the writer’s intent and message in a short story, it is crucial for the writer to know and understand how to make a good and understandable short story. To make the story more engaging and clearer for the audience, the writer found two problems. One is the CEFR levels used in the picture book, and the second is the types of verbs used in the picture book. The writer used two theories to solve the problem: first, identify the word based on CEFR levels, and second, search for types of verbs that suit the audience based on Cambridge Dictionary theories and Sentence-Based Writing book. The writer pinpoints two CEFR levels A1 and A2 used in the picture books and three common types of verbs—action, linking, and helping verbs—used in the picture books in order to make an engaging picture book.
