Abstract

Resilience is understood as a dynamic developmental process that enables individuals to adapt positively to challenges across the lifespan. Early secure attachment, formed through consistent and responsive caregiving in childhood, has been suggested to support resilience development. However, research examining its role in adulthood remains limited. This study aims to explore the relationship between early secure attachment and resilience in adulthood through a scoping review of published empirical studies between 2015 to 2025. Using the PRISMA-ScR guidelines, a systematic search was conducted across several academic databases, resulting in five studies included in the final analysis. The findings indicate that early secure attachment is consistently associated with higher levels of resilience in adulthood and is linked to better emotional regulation, self-esteem, and adaptive coping across samples. Overall, early secure attachment appears to provide a foundation for resilient functioning later in life, highlighting the importance of early relational experiences for adult resilience.
