Abstract

This study aims to examine the effects of relationship intimacy and duration on the perceived acceptability of ghosting, as well as the moderating roles of sociosexual attitude and Dark Triad traits. A quantitative experimental method with a vignette-based factorial design (2 × 4) was employed. The participants consisted of 179 young adults who are currently using or have previously used dating applications. The results indicate that ghosting is perceived as less acceptable in relationships with higher intimacy and longer duration, and most acceptable in low-intimacy, short-duration relationships. Out of five proposed hypotheses, four were supported. Sociosexual attitude significantly moderates these relationships, whereas Dark Triad traits do not show a significant moderating effect. The conclusion of this study is that the perceived acceptability of ghosting is influenced by relational context and individual differences in sociosexual attitudes.
