Abstract

"Introduction: Birth weight act as an indicator of health status of newborns and is reflected by maternal capability to provide nutrients for the fetus. Factors contributed to low birth weight include anemia status and chronic energy deficiency. Objectives: To investigate the correlation between maternal haemoglobin level in trimester III and middle-upper arm circumference towards neonatal birth weight Material and Methods: This is an observational analytical study with a cross sectional approach. Sample was attained via medical records from Sidotopo Wetan Public Health Centre. A total of 97 samples of maternal who performs complete parturition at Sidotopo Wetan Public Health Centre were gathered, with excluding criteria of twins, maternal with short stature and pregnancy gap of lower than 24 months. Result: Study found that 7.22% of newborns had low birth weight, with an average of 3024g. 53.61% of pregnant women suffers from anemia, where 35 suffers form mild anemia (36.08%) and 17 with moderate anemia (17.53%). The median Hb was 10.84g/dl with interquartile range of 1.30g/dl. Spearman test shows a significant value (p=0.013) with a correlation (r) of -0.25. Meanwhile, majority of pregnant women was found to have normal energy level (79.38%). Average measurement of maternal middle-upper arm circumference found was 25.96cm ±SD 3.12cm. Pearson test shows a p value of 0.148. "
