Abstract

We found a relationship between the mode of delivery and post-partum depression. Women giving birth through CS were more at risk in acquiring PPD compared to those delivering vaginally. Women undergoing emergency CS were also found to be slightly more prone to PPD than those undergoing elective CS. We recommend that physicians and other healthcare workers providing care for new mothers should carefully monitor the signs and symptoms of PPD, especially in those who gave birth through CS. Women planning to give birth via CS should also carefully weigh the risks and benefits of it before deciding. We would also like to suggest future studies to standardize the screening tool and time points used for making a PPD diagnosis to get a more accurate reading on the effects of the mode of delivery on PPD.
