Abstract

This research was aimed to know contamination of Salmonella sp. in chicken broiler meat sold at Balongpanggang Traditional market, Gresik. Thirty samples of broiler chicken meat were taken from six different seller using purposive sampling method. Twenty five gram samples were isolated using Buffered Pepton Water (BPW), Tetrationate Broth (TTB), then streaked at Salmonella Shigella Agar (SSA). If colony on SSA media apperead to be convex, transparant, with black spot in the middle, then continued identification with coloration of Gram and biochemistry test using media of Triple Sugar Iron Agar (TSIA), Urea Agar, Simmon’s Citrate Agar (SCA), Sulfide Indole Motiliy (SIM) and Methyl Red-Voges Proskauer (MR-VP). The result indicates that 2 (6,7%) out of 30 samples of broiler meat sold at Balongpanggang traditional market in Gresik were positively contaminated with Salmonella sp.
