Abstract

The purpose of this research was to find out the potency of the extract of kemangi leaf (Ocimum basilicum) as immunostimulant on the amount and numbered kind of leukocyte in white rat (Rattus novergicus). The experiment was performed homogen 25 rats were randomly divided into 5 groups. Group K- was given only Natrium Carboxy Methyl Celulose (CMC Na) as a negative control group. Positive control group was given Sheep Red Blood Cell 2% (SRBC) intraperitoneal and CMC Na, Group P1 was given kemangi leaf extract 150 mg/kgBW and SRBC 2%, group P2 was given kemangi leaf extract 300 mg/kgBW and SRBC 2%, then group P3 was given kemangi leaf extract 600 mg/kgBW and SRBC 2%. The blood of rats was taken on 21th seven days after induction with SRBC to examine the amount and differential leukocyte using calculation room and blood smear. Datas of neutrophil and lymphocyte was analyzed using ANOVA, and datas of total leukocytes, eosinophil, basophil, and monocytes was analyzed using Kruskal-Wallis. The result of this research showed that extract of kemangi leaf with dose 600 mg/kgBW can significantly increase the total of leukocytes but there was no significant difference in the leukocyte components which included neutrophils, lymphocytes, and monocytes.
