Abstract

Antimicrobial resistance has become a global health issue, with antibiotic overuse being one of the main factors. In the field of internal medicine, there is a high use of antibiotics with a high consumption rate. The measures implemented by the government in handling the antimicrobial resistance is through conducting quantitative analysis of antibiotic usage by adopting the method of defined daily dose (DDD)/100 patient-days. The ATC/DDD approach is the recommended standard by the WHO for determining the amount of antibiotic consumption. The DDD value acquired can be used as an evaluation tool and compared to DDD values from other hospitals or other health facilities. This study is descriptive in nature and is an observational study. Between the period of January 2019 and December 2020, data was collected retrospectively at the Airlangga University Hospital, through collecting medical record data of patients who have been hospitalized in this hospital - a total population of 3326 patients was acquired in this study, with a sample of 421 patients meeting the inclusion criteria. Sepsis, typhoid fever, and GEA are the most common kinds of infection. In 2019 and 2020, the total value of DDD/100 patient-days acquired was 76.45 and 80.21 DDD/100 patient-days, respectively. Ceftriaxone was the most often used antibiotic, with a DDD of 44.92 DDD/100 patient-days in 2019 and 51.11 DDD/100 patient-days in 2020.
