Abstract

This research aimed to determine the effects of toxic clove extract (Syzygium aromaticum) against larvae of brine shrimp (Artemia salina Leach) indicated LC50 values. This study is purely experimental by using Brine Shrimp Lethality Test (BSLT). This research was an experimental research using Post TestOnly Control Group Design. It is use 300 larvae as test animal which is divided on six groups. Each groups contains 10 larvae with replication of research for five times. The final consentration of extract in the media consecutively as the group of 1,2,3,4,5, and 6 is 50 ppm, 250 ppm, 500 ppm, 750 ppm, 1000 ppm and negative control (seawater). Mortality data percentage of Artemia salina Leach analyzed by probit analysis. Results showed that the extract of clove (Syzygium aromaticum) has a toxic effect on larvae of Artemia salina Leach with LC50 values of 227,1 µg/ml calculate from probit analysis. From these results, it can conclude that clove extract is toxic to larval shrimp (Artemia salina Leach) with Brine Shrimp Lethality Test (BSLT) method which means clove extract has the potential to be an anticancer drug.
