Abstract

This study aimed to determine the prevalence of gastrointestinal protozoa in cattle at Tempurejo sub-district, Jember regency. The research was conducted from October to December 2021 by taking 100 cattle feces samples from 8 villages at the Tempurejo sub-district, Jember Regency. The samples were examined by direct simear, sedimentation and floating methods. Species identification was determined from the morphology of the protozoa. There were of 53 (53%) samples positively infected with protozoan. There were 3 species of protozoa that infect the digestive tract in cattle, those are Eimeria sp., Balantidium sp., and Blastocystis sp. The result of Chi Square Test showed no significant differences in the sex of cattle with the prevalence gastrointestinal of protozoa (P>0.05) and significant differences in the age of cattle with the prevalence gastrointinal of protozoa (P<0.05).
