Abstract
This study aimed to determine the effect of feed contaminated with low levels of aflatoxin (9,58 ppb) on the organ weight of the ovaries of laying hens in the early stages of growth. This study used 36 laying hens which were divided into two groups, namely P0 (control group) and P1 (treatment group). The control group was only given CP 521 starter feed and continued with CP 524 grower feed, while the treatment group was feed with a composition of 80% basal feed + 20% feed containing aflatoxins. The treatment was given at intervals of 20 to 60 days with three surgical periods, namely at the age of 20, 40, and 60 days. Laying hens will be slaughtered for ovary collection at the end of each period. the mean absolute ovarian weight of the control group (P0) on the 20th, 40th, and 60th days was 0.262 gram, 0.200 gram, and 0.408 gram. The mean absolute weight of the ovaries in the treatment group (P1) on the 20th, 40th, and 60th days was 0.182 grams, 0.258 grams, and 0.393 grams. The mean relative ovarian weight of the control group (P0) on the 20th, 40th, and 60th days was 0.120%, 0.048%, and 0.058%. The average relative weight of the ovaries in the treatment group (P1) on the 20th, 40th, and 60th days was 0,086%, 0,059%, and 0,056%. The combined factor between age or length of treatment and the treatment group showed significantly different (p<0.05) in absolute weight and (p<0.05) in the relative weight of the ovaries. It can be concluded that the administration of aflatoxin 9.58 ppb at 20% feed reduced the absolute weight and relative weight of the ovaries of laying hens.
