Abstract
"Dexamethasone damage results in oxidative stress and has an influence on the hematological profile. Administration of exogenous antioxidants such as Astaxanthin was able to help reduce ROS in dexamethasone-induced Wistar white rats. This study aims to determine the effect of Astaxanthin on the hematological profile of rats induced by Dexamethasone. The method used is a randomized post test only control group design. The study used 25 male rats which were randomly divided into five groups. There was a negative control (K-) who was not given any medication, a positive control (K+) was given Dexamethasone at a dose of 0.75 mg, and the treatment group was given Dexamethasone at a dose of 0.75 mg and a different dose of Astaxanthin, P1 (2mg/head), P2 (6mg). /head), P3 (12 mg/head). treatment is given once a day. After ten days of treatment, the rats were drawn blood using a heart puncture technique and inserted into the EDTA tube. Examination of the hematological profile with ABX Micros 60. Data analysis used the One way Anova test and continued with the Tukey HSD test which showed a significant difference (P < 0.05) while (P> 0.05) with the Kruskal Walis test and then the Man Whitney test which showed significant difference (P<0.05). The results showed an increase in the number of leukocytes, erythrocytes, hemoglobin and hematocrit on astaxanthin administration. an increase in the number of leukocytes was found in the P1 group with astaxanthin doses of 2 mg/day and 0.75 mg/day and a decrease with increasing dose approached the negative control. The maximum increase in the number of erythrocytes was found in the P2 group with a dose of 6 mg/day and 0.75 mg/day of dexamethasone, this also occurred in the number of hemoglobin and hematocrit. There was no significant change in the effect of astaxanthin and dexamethasone on platelet count. "
