Abstract

This research aims to morphometric data to determine the sex of the Muscovy Duck (Cairina moschata) as early as possible by using the variables of neck circumference, neck length, chest circumference, and body length. The samples used in this study were male and female ducklings with the age of Day Old Duck (DOD), 2 weeks, 4 weeks, 6 weeks, and 8 weeks. The number of samples used were 10 males and 10 females with a total sample of 20 ducklings. Duck’s body parts were measured using a tape measure with an accuracy of 0.05 mm. The results of the measurements were processed by using the Manova Repeated Measure test analysis method on SPSS 23. The results of the research showed that the length and the body diameter of the males are greater than that of females in each age group. The different growth rates are influenced by endogenous factors (genetic and hormonal) and exogenous factors (feed and environment). Hormons that play a role in growth include testosteron hormon. The testosteron hormon works together with growth hormons that play an important role in the period of growth, so males grow faster, as well as feed consumption and high aggressiveness in male animals becoming one of the causes of male size being larger than females.
