Abstract

Cosplay has been a phenomenon in our japanese culture fans society. Many events are including cosplay as a part of their show, to attract audiences. This activity is getting bigger and become something quite serious. This is indicated by some competitions being held in a national and even international scale. In Surabaya, there’s a community for cosplayers called COSURA. Here, cosplayers from many backgrounds and age interact with each others, from middle schoolers to married people. They all have their own motives and purposes as to why they’re doing cosplay. Especially those whose already married, what purpose they have so they still cosplay even until now is what this research is about. Analyzing with Pierre Bourdieu’s theory, this research looksdeeply intotheir habitus, field, and capital they have. Apparently they all have something in common. For example, all of them are Japanese TV programs fans such as anime and tokusatsu series, and all of them have the support of their family and friends to do cosplay. They all have variations of purpose. Some of them doing this to show their superiority, some of them doing this for money and even for their profession, and some of them just doing this for refreshing.
