Abstract
This study discusses media habits of Telegram users in accessing illegal film streaming during the COVID-19 pandemic. During the pandemic most people spend more time online through the media from their devices. This is because during the lockdown, people entertain themselves through online media (Nortajuddin, 2020). Online media that is connected to the internet makes people tend to seek entertainment through online media, one of which is watching movies. One of the media for watching movies is Telegram, which is trending to be used as a media for streaming movies during the COVID-19 pandemic. Nachiket Pantvaidya (in Mandavia, 2020) who is the CEO, ALTBalaji, and Group COO, Balaji Telefilm said that piracy has become a concern for film creators and publishers, especially since the lockdown due to the pandemic has certainly made their content piracy. Piracy on Telegram itself jumped by 1092% or about 11 times during the lockdown. This study uses a qualitative approach with an exploratory type. The data collection technique in this study uses in-depth interviews or in-depth interviews with Telegram users who use Telegram as a film streaming media. The results of the research obtained from interviews with all of these informants will show the media habits of Telegram users in consuming streaming films during a pandemic which is reviewed through an analysis of the operational concept of media use by Rubin & Windahl (1986).
