Abstract
The aim of this research is to determine the type and prevalence of ectoparasite on dumbo catfish in Wonoayu District, Sidoarjo Regency. This research was taken on January until March 2022. This study uses survey methods with a cross-sectional study design. Samples in this study used the scraping method which was carried out on the body surface, fins and gills and took fish gill filaments directly using tweezers with a total with a total of 96 dumbo catfish samples selected using purposive sampling method or criteria determined by researchers in Wonoayu District, Sidoarjo Regency. Ectoparasite observations are performed using a binocular microscope with magnifications of 40x, 100x and 400x. The types of protozoa found were Trichodina sp., and Oodinium sp. while the types of helminth found were Dactylogyrus sp., Gyrodactylus sp., and Actinocleidus sp. Based on the type of ectoparasites, the highest prevalence of protozoan infestation was Trichodina sp. (76.04%) followed by Oodinium sp. (12.5%), while the highest prevalence of helminth infection was Dactylogyrus sp. (21.05%), followed by Gyrodactylus sp. (8.33%) and Actinocleidus sp. (5.21%). The results of water quality tests in three cultivation ponds of Wonoayu District of Sidoarjo Regency showed that water quality was not good for the survival of dumbo catfish and the development of cultivation. This study concluded that the species of ectoparasites in dumbo catfish found in Wonoayu District, Sidoarjo Regency were Trichodina sp., Oodinium sp., Dactylogyrus sp., Gyrodactylus sp., and Actinocleidus sp. with a prevalence of 76.04% of the total sample.
