Abstract

Sarcocystosis is a disease that can cause problem in both economic and health of human and animal. Consumption of undercooked meat is one of a route transmission of this parasite from animal to human. The purpose of this study was to determine the presence of Sarcocystis sp and species that infect slaughtered cattle in an Abatoirs in Surabaya. Thirty five of slaughtered cattle’s oesophagus were examined microscopically to identify the presence of Sarcocystis bradizoites. Molecular examination using PCR with 18s rRNA gene as gene target was also done for eleven samples including nine positive and two negative microscopically examination. The result showed six samples were PCR positive which four samples from positive microscopically examination and one from negative microscopically examination, but it needs to be investigated further.
