Abstract
Game has become a lifestyle and trend in all over the world including Indonesia. Japanese video game is one of that dominates in gaming industry even now. So many that has been developed from Japanese gaming industry and that led the fans to admire and play them. Analyzing with the reception theory (encoding-decoding) of Stuart Hall, brings to explain and analyze the reception of gamer in Surabaya about Japanese games in Indonesia and how they consume it. With in-dept interview to collect the data from gamer in Surabaya, of how they consume Japanese video games product. The result is showed that many gamer in Surabaya like Japanese video games with genre of RPG and they like to play it in personal computer. Some of them think that Japanese games quality is decreasing. But still, many of them like Japanese games. Indonesia is one of the most people who consume video game from piracy. But gamer in Surabaya already aware to consume original game.
