Abstract

Herbal and conventional medicine have been used to treat alopecia or hair loss. But lately the side effects of conventional medicine cause so much concern that it raises the popularity of the use of herbal medicines. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the activity and stability of hair tonic combination from Krangean seed extract and Mint extract. Krangean seed extract and mint extract combination were formulated into hair tonic with various concentration ie. Mint extract and Krangean seed extract 1:1, 1:2, 1:3. Activity of hair growth test was conducted by hair measurement on day 7, 14, 21. The measurement of hair weight was conducted on day 21. Scoring was conducted on day 1, 4, 7, 10, 14, 17 and 21. Physical stability test performed was cycling test. The cycling test was performed as much as 3 cycles. The parameter used for stability test were pH and viscosity. Each treated group showed hair growth as could be examined through hair length, hair weight and scoring of the rats after treatments. The result of stability test showed that hair tonic were physically stable within pH range 4,5-6,5 and viscosity of 1-5 cps (25°C). It was concluded from the study, that all treated groups showed hair growth, eventhough statistically there were no significant differences among the group (p>0,05).
