Abstract

Urolithiasis is a pathophysiological condition caused by crystal stones in the urinary tract. Urolithiasis treatment is generally done through invasive surgery or using a drug that only overcomes the pain. Therefore, another alternative is needed in urolithiasis treatment, which is from Marsilea crenata Presl. The objective of this study was to know the effect ofethanolicextractMarsilea crenata Presl herbs. in improving urine quality and improving kidney inflammatory conditions in the urolithiasis animal model. Marsilea crenata Presl. herbs macerated in ethanolic for 24 hours and divided into three doses which 75; 150; 300 mg/kg body weight and given to male Wistar rats aged 2-3 months weighing 150-300 grams. The crystals were formed by giving 0.75% ethylene glycol and 2% ammonium chloride for 14 days. The data obtained include, pH, specific gravity, urine volume/100 gbody weight ratio, calcium oxalate crystal sediment, and renal weight/100 g body weightratio were then analyzed statistically using one way ANOVA and followed by post hoc test using Tukey, while the color and clarity of urine were analyzed descriptively. The results showed that ethanol extractMarsilea crenata Presl. herbscan improve urine quality by increasing the urine volume /100 g body weight ratio, the condition of renal inflammation, and decreasing the calcium oxalate crystal sediments but not affecting color, clarity, pH, and specific gravity.This study showed that ethanolic extract of Marsilea crenata Presl. herbs can improve the quality of urine and improving kidney inflammatory conditions.
