Abstract

Indonesia is the largest biodiversity center in the world, comprising various tropical plants and marine biota. Medicinal plants have been utilized for centuries in traditional medicine (Mulyani, 2016). For hundreds of years, Indonesian society has utilized plants from the surrounding environment as traditional medicine. One of the plants is E. pulcherrima known as kastuba. Plants originating from the Euphorbiaceae family have been known to be effective for treating cancer, tumors, and warts. The purpose of this study was to determine the specific and non specific parameters of kastuba leaf simplicia (E.pulcherrima) from Batu and Bandung. Specific and non-specific methods and parameters determined in this study are based on Indonesian Herbal Pharmacopoeia. Raw materials used are from the Batu and Bandung regions. In this study, a number of specific and non specific parameters of kastuba leaf simplicia (E.pulcherrima) originating from two different regions were assayed, such as (1) water soluble essence concentration in Batu (24.63 ± 0.76)%, and in Bandung (20.90 ± 0.81)%; (2) determination of ethanol soluble concentration in Batu (16.97 ± 0.39)%, and in Bandung (12.82 ± 0.59)%; (3) determination of total ash content in Batu (9.15% ± 0.62)%, and in Bandung (9.30% ± 0.02)%; (4) determination of acid soluble ash content in Batu (0.65 ± 0.20)%, and in Bandung (0.78 ± 0.45)%; (5) determination of drying shrinkage in Batu (8.52% ± 0.45)%, and in Bandung (11.46% ± 0.41)%; (6) determination of water content in Batu (8.33 ± 0.58)%, and in Bandung (10.65 ± 1.16)%; (7) determination of total sterol in Batu (0.06 ± 0.005)%, and in Bandung (0.04 ± 0.01)%.
