Abstract

The poinsettia plant (Euphorbia pulcherrima) has long been used as a traditional medicinal. Researches on the efficacy of poinsettia leaves indicates that it can be used as antitumor, wound healer, laxative, and to stop bleeding as well. Due to efficacies of this plant, it has a potential to be developed as herbal medicine. To meet the quality requirements of raw materials, it’s necessary to determine the of standard parameters. Therefore, this study was aimed to determine the specific parameters and nonspecific parameters of 96% ethanolic extract of poinsettia leaves. The result of specific parameters and nonspecific parameters of 96% ethanolic extract of poinsettia leaves showed that determination of ethanol soluble extractive substance from Batu was (72.28 ± 1.05) %, from Bandung was (71.46 ± 1.04) %. Determination of water soluble extractive substance from Batu was (63.78 ± 1.18) %, from Bandung was (49.43 ± 1.29) %. Determination of total sterol from Batu was (0.50 ± 0.02) %, from Bandung was (0.65 ± 0.04) %. Determination of total ash content from Batu was (5.75 ± 0.07) %, from Bandung (6.77 ± 0.04) %. Determination of acid insoluble ash content from Batu was (0.70 ± 0.13) %, from Bandung was (0.37 ± 0.07) %. Determination of the water content from Batu was (11.33 ± 0.58) %, from Bandung (9.17 ± 0.29) %. Determination of loss on drying from Batu was (18.96 ± 0.05) %, from Bandung was (19.73 ± 0.27) %.
