Abstract

An increasing number of elderly people in Japan caused some problems. Which one is violence against the elderly in households in Japan. Families are expected to assist in caring for the elderly actually do violence. The period of research are limited on the years 2006 – 2012, as the “Act on the Prevention of Elder Abuse, Support for Caregivers of Elderly Persons and Other Related Matters” are legally used in 2006 and 2012 because of national data of violence against elderly in households in Japan were issued by the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare of Japan there are only up to the year 2012. This research addresses to determine what factors are behind the violence against the elderly in households in Japan, specially at 2006 – 2012. The research method used in this research is literature review and data analysis. The theory used in this research is the concept of domestic violence, the concept of violence against the elderly, and the concept of violence against the elderly in households in Japan. The researcher found that there are several factors that lead to high violence against elderly in households in Japan that is a factor in the treatment of fatigue, economic factor, and treatment knowledge factor.
