Abstract

Being lesbian is never easy. People usually judge and insult them because people think that it is abnormal. Due to the lack of space to express their life, some of them trying to create a virtual community to gather people who has the same experience as one. sepocikopi.com is a lesbian online magazine that created by Alex and Lakshmi in 2009. This website tends to be an online magazine which it provides articles about lesbian daily and it is written by the members of sepocikopi.com. Every single member took a part in writing articles they like in any columns they fond of. “Gaya Hidup” is one of the columns that depict what kind of lifestyle these lesbians are in and what kind of lifestyle they wanted to be. This aim of this study is to figure out the actualization of lesbian’s lifestyle which tends to be ambiguous in the actual practice, including the classification in gender roles. This study is using in-depth analysis to break down the selected articles in “Gaya Hidup” column written by Yasmin and Carmen then the findings are interpreted by using Butler’s theory about gender performativity. Therefore, the actualization of lesbian’s lifestyle which being depicted in the 5 chosen articles in “Gaya Hidup” column are clear enough to show to the readers that the lesbian’s lifestyle still strongly attached to the heteronormativity and considered as ambiguous and lesbianism itself has become as a device to glorify the female relationship and/or female partnership.
