Abstract
The major problems to study in this thesis are exploitation and implications toward labors in Paolo Bacigalupi‟sShip Breaker. The writer analyses the problems by using Marxist concepts by Karl Marx and as conceptualized by Bressler, Eagleton, and Parker. This study aims at analyzing the exploitation toward the labors and its implications. Marxist theory is considered most appropriate because it discusses about the relation between upper and low class in society. The writer would analyze how a capitalist system can ruin the labors‟ life through exploitations in Ship Breaker. The method consists of data collective and data analysis. Data collective consists of close reading, data classification based on problem statements and data selection to be analyzed. Furthermore, data analysis consists of descriptive qualitative by using Marxist theory as conceptualized by Brsseler, Eagleton and Parker. This study is essential to let readers see that exploitation in society does exist in literary work so that readers more concern with exploitation issue around them. From this study, I then indicate that capitalist‟s system has some effects to labors‟ social life. Based on the analysis, the findings are that (1) exploitations toward the labors can be found through social differentiations and clashes, labors slavery and capitalist‟s ideology and (2) the implications of exploitations toward the labors include permanently sustainable poverty, no accessibility to economy, moral hazards and powerlessness.
