Abstract

Background. Sepsis is a life-threatening organ dysfunction caused by a dysregulated host response to infection. One of the sepsis management is giving the specific antibiotics, but the initial treathment is giving broad spectrum antibiotics before there are culture results. Inappropriate use of antibiotics in septic patients can lead to bacterial resistance and worsen the patient's condition . The purpose of this study was to study the patterns of bacterial and antibiotics sensitivity in septic patients in RSUD Dr. Soetomo Surabaya Method. This descriptive retrospective study was conducted at RSUD Dr. Soetomo in January to December 2019. The sample of this study was all the medical record data of sepsis patients that had results positive bacterial blood culture at the clinical Microbiology Laboratory of RSUD Dr. Soetomo Surabaya in 2019 Results. The result showed that of 722 blood samples, including 124 (17.2%) samples with positive culture results. The youngest patient was 16 years old and the oldest was 97 years old. This result also shows that most of the septic patients are female. The most common bacteria found were Staphylococcus spp. 80.4%. Gram positive bacteria (Staphylococcus spp.) were sensitive to linezolid, vancomycin, teicoplanin Conclusion. The most bacteria found were Staphylococcus spp, while the most sensitive antibiotics to gram-positive Staphylococcu spp were linezolid, vancomycin, and teicoplanin antibiotics. Keywords: Sepsis, Antibiotics, Bacterial Patterns.
