Abstract

The objective of this study is to conduct replication of Posner’s 1980 experiment, known as the cueing task experiment. The experiment used to determine reaction time of participants when given task to spot a target on valid and invalid cues condition, with the “X” signal for cue and “GO” signal for target. The study hypothesized that participant’s reaction time will be faster when valid cue appeared than when invalid cue is presented. There are 205 participants in total in this study, with 34 males, and 171 females, that are randomly picked out from students in PYB2-04 tutorial class who volunteered on the experiment. The result support hypothesis of the study (M = 360.2439024, SD = 54.59439589, t(204)= 25.162, p < .001). The study found several things that could be improved, among them was the lack of control in participants of this experiment, as there were no requirements to be involved in the study, the result might not conclude other factors that individual might possessed. For that reason, future study is suggested to consider it if another attempt was to be made to replicate the experiment. Keywords: cueing experiment, Posner, replication
