Abstract

This research was based on the economics theory that investment in industrial oompany will influence the production growth and manpower absorption. Theoretically, investment consisted of fixed (business) investment, inventory investment, and residential investment. This research would prove and analyze the influence of each type of the aforesaid investments upon the production growth and manpower absorption at Wood Processing Industry in East Kalimantan Province. This research was applied secondary data obtained from period 1993-2003. Output analysis used Path AnalysiS, whereas parameter assumption applies the OLS - Ordinary Least Square method. The test result indicated that variable of fixed investment growth has a positive significant influence upon the production growth. Variable of inventory investment growth indicates positive significant influence upon variable of production growth, meanwhile the variable of residential invesbnent growth has no significant influence to the production growth. The production growth variable has positive Significant influence upon the variable of manpower absorption growth. Variable of fixed investment growth shows non-Significant influence upon the variable of manpower absorption growth. Meanwhile, variable of inventory investment growth indicates significant negative influence upon variable of manpower absorption growth. Variable of residential investment growth has nonSignificant influence to the variable of manpower absorption growth at Wood Processing Industry in East Kalimantan Province. Based on outputs of this research, the investment policy at Wood Processing Industry should be prioritized on the investment able to increase the production growth. in addition to increasing the added value of production, more significantly it increases the manpower absorption.
