Abstract

The rate of acute hepatitis C virus infection was reported to have increased in 2019 by 63% cases from 2015 and there were 123,312 chronic HCV infections. The most treatment uses for Hepatitis C virus is Direct Acting Antivirus Agents (DAAs) with SVR >90%, however these drugs have limitation due to very high price and difficult to obtain. This study aimed to determine the anti-hepatitis C activity and cytotoxicity in Huh7it cells fraction from the methanol extract of red betel leaf (Piper crocatum Ruiz & Pav) as the basis for development into herbal medicine. This study was obtain five fraction with three fraction had potential activity with IC50 values of 0.317 µg/mL (fraction 2), 0.187 g/mL (fraction 3), 1.648 µg/mL (fraction 4). Further purification of fraction 2 obtain 7 subfraction with potential activity between 80–100% inhibition. All of those fractions and subfractions have not any toxicity effect in Huh7it cells. These result such as that methanol extract fractions are potential candidate for anti-HCV development.
