Abstract

Sharing financing should be the main operational characteristic of Islamic financial institutions because it more comply to sharia (Islamic Jaw) and more fair (Chapra, 2001 :223). But in fact, in baitul mil wa tamwil (BMT), sharing financing) is very small, which is about 20% of total financing. Some BMT manager think that sharing financing is lead to poor performance due to the nature of uncertainty. This study aims at analyzing the effect of sharingfinancing on the business performance, social performance, and ma§lahah. Tbis study uses quantitative approach with three analysis; quantitative analysis by partial least square (PLS), qualitative anaJysis, and syar'i analysis. PLS analysis is used to determine the relationships among the latent variables; muqirabah financing, musyirakah financing, business performance, social performance, and ma§laJah.
