Abstract

Semanggi (Marsillea crenata) is a useful plant that is easy to find especially in river, swamp, and pond. It has phytoestrogens that can be used to increase health especially in menopausal women. The aim of this research is to study the effect of clover leaves extract to increase the amount of neuronal cell in menopausal mice models. The subject was female mice strain BaIb/c that was induced by dexamethasone for 4 weeks. After that, mice was divided into 4 groups: negative control group (CMC-Na suspension), positive control group (Allendronate suspension), first test group (Clover leaves ethanol 96% extract) and second test group (Clover leaves n-Hexane extract). The result showed significant difference between controled and tested group. Average number of neuronal cell of each group were: negative control group 124,4± 26,7; positive control group 152,9 ± 14,5; first test group 124,9 ± 9,9; and second test group 154,2 ± 33,1. Based on the result the second test group has significant increase in neuronal cell amount instead of the first test group compared with negative control group. The result were analyzed with one-way ANOVA and showed that there is a significant different p<0,05. It indicates that clover leaves ethanol 96% extract and n-hexane extract has the effect to increase the neuronal cell amount.
