Abstract

The aim of this research was determine the level of libido and testosterone from Bawean (Axis kuhlii) male deer / Bawean stags at 3 stage of antler cycle (pedicle, hard and velvet). It also aimed to determine the correlation of libido levels with testosterone concentrations in blood serum in each antler cycle of Bawean stags in Taman Flora Bratang, Surabaya. This study used 18 Bawean stags, divided into 3 groups; K1 (pedicle antler Bawean stags), K2 (hard antler Bawean stags) and K3 (velvet antler Bawean stags). Libido observation based on reaction time, mounting enthusiasm, and erection status which was assessed from 5 to 1 where 5 was the best value. The testosterone concentration was obtained from serum of all Bawean stags in each groups by the Competitive ELISA. The results of libido scales comparison and testosterone levels comparison was significant between K2 with K1 dan K3. Then libido scale and testosterone levels correlation using Pearson Correlation had a positive correlation with a very strong level of relationship. So the libido scales and testosterone levels of Bawean stags could be detected based on the antler stage. When hard antler had a highest libido and testosterone level.
